Michigan Gas Utilities is introducing its new ambassadog to the community.

Michigan Gas spokesperson Matt Cullen tells us each spring, the company selects a new K9 representative to be the face of its safe digging campaign. They want everyone to know to call 811 at least three days before doing any digging.

Because dogs are the digging experts, we turn to our four-legged friends to be able to be the face of that safety message for us as we go all throughout the next year,” Cullen said.

Our ambassadog this year is Bandit, who has some experience with digging.

Bandit is a one-year-old Llewellyn setter from Benton Harbor, and his favorite activity, or one of his favorite activities, is to dig on the beach along the shores of Lake Michigan.”

Cullen says Bandit will be used in a social media campaign all year reminding everyone to call 811 when digging. More than 13,000 votes were cast in the latest selection of the ambassadog.

Cullen reminds everyone whether you’re planting a garden or doing a professional construction project, always call 811 or notify MISS DIG three days ahead of time. It’s free, it’s easy, and it’s the law.
