Only five minutes of physical activity a day can boost your brain health as you get older. That’s according to the researchers at Advent Health, who tell us just a couple minutes of exercise improves processing speed and memory.
Detroit Medical Center chief of sports medicine Christopher Cooke says getting outside while you exercise has even more benefits.
“In Michigan, usually we have about six to eight months a year where it’s beautiful weather,” Steele said. “So by combining the outdoors with the physical activity, you not only get the neurocognitive benefits of exercise, you also get the endorphins of being outside in the fresh air. So I tell people that may not know where to start, simply go for that 10 to 15 minute walk outside when the weather’s good.”
Dr. Cooke says exercise releases hormones that are good for the brain.
