
Summer is almost here, and so is the special blend of gas.
The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is making the switch in southeast Michigan now. So, mostly the Detroit Metro area can cut down on its release of smog-causing chemicals.
So, what is the summer blend? Tim White, director of the Consumer Protection Division, says it has to do with vapors. Basically, the higher the number on the vapor pressure,
“Basically, the higher the number on the vapor pressure, the more it’s gonna evaporate, the more evaporation is gonna cause more volatile organic compounds to be released into the atmosphere, which will cause more pollution, cause more low-level ozone,” White said.
The summer blend switch happens starting June 1 through September 15. Eight counties will need to sell or distribute gasoline with vapor pressure no greater than 7.
