Present Pillars in Benton Harbor will mark Men’s Health Month in June with a Men’s Health Month Challenge and Men’s Health Awareness 5K.

Present Pillars Director James Gunter tells us the group is all about supporting and strengthening fathers, and so it’s teaming up with the Renaissance Athletic Club for the challenge. The month-long weight loss and wellness competition will help participants build healthier habits with access to fitness coaching, nutrition tips, and support from local wellness experts.

Just prioritize your health,” Gunter said. “Make it a habit. Healthy lifestyles, make that a habit. So rather than saying at the beginning of the year, ‘I’m gonna make it my New Year’s resolution to lose this many pounds,’ how about just maintaining your health throughout the year?”

Throughout the month, the Renaissance Athletic Club will offer 25 free one-month memberships as part of the challenge with a grand prize of $500 and six months of free membership at the club. There are also second and third place prizes.

Meanwhile, Gunter says the 5K will focus on improving the physical and mental well-being of men while encouraging families to get involved.

So we’re gonna kick it off with a Men’s Health Month 5K. You can walk or run. It’s family friendly, so you can bring your entire family, and we wanna really ask people who are not men, why are we doing this? Who are we doing this for, right? Who are you walking for?”

The 5K will be Saturday, May 31 with registrations at 8 a.m. It will start at The Pillar Center on West Main Street in Benton Harbor. Gunter invites men from all walks of life to take the challenge and to take part in the run.
