A Van Buren County man has won more than $5 million in the Michigan Lottery.
The Michigan Lotto tells us the 43-year-old anonymous winner struck the jackpot in the April 23 Lotto 47 game, winning $5.46 million. He bought his ticket at a Speedway gas station in Kalamazoo.
The winner says he plays the Lotto 47 “every once in a while,” and just bought that ticket on a whim. He checked the winning numbers later that night and had to recheck them several times to be sure he’d won. He says it was “surreal,” prompting him to run out the door and down the street in excitement.
The player picked up his prize at the Lottery headquarters, choosing to receive annual payments of about $182,000 for the next 30 years instead of the lump sum payment.
The player says he plans to use the money to take care of his family.
