No one is hurt following a police standoff in Stevensville on Wednesday.
The Lincoln Township Police Department says officers were called to the 5,700 block of George Street in the village on a report of an assault in the early evening. Upon arrival, the officers spoke with two 17-year-olds who told them they’d been standing near their vehicle on the street when a man came out of his home with a handgun and confronted them. The teens said he eventually pointed the pistol in their direction, prompting them to flee to a safer location.
Responding officers set up a perimeter and tried to make contact with the man in the home, but were not successful. After getting a warrant, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department Tactical Response Unit was brought in and entered the home. It found the 67-year-old suspect and took him into custody without incident. He’s now charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
The Lincoln Township Police Department says it thanks the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department TRU team, Michigan State Police, and the St. Joseph Township Police Department for their help resolving the situation safely.
