Legislation co-sponsored by Congressman Tim Walberg intended to put the United States at the forefront of new wireless communications technology has been approved in the U.S. House.

Walberg tells us the FUTURE Networks Act seeks to get a handle on 6G technology. He says it seems like just yesterday 5G was the new thing, but 6G is also coming.

This would require the FCC to establish a 6G task force made up of industry and government leaders and require them to issue a report to enable us to do our best in preparing possible 6G technology applications,” Walberg said.

Walberg says as 6G comes into use, it’s critical for the U.S. to have the know-how and equipment to stay ahead of the game.

It’s going to be absolute necessity for everyone from our manufacturers to our agricultural industry, medical and educational systems as well. So it is important and I’m glad we got it out of the House quickly this term.”

The task force will be required to issue a report laying out standards for the use of 6G, possible use cases of 6G, possible threats to the supply chain or cybersecurity, and how agencies can coordinate to deploy 6G.

Walberg says he and partners have been working on this for a while, so it’s good to see the legislation advance. He believes President Trump will support it.
