A St. Joseph man is dead following a two-vehicle crash in Benton Township Wednesday.

The Benton Township Police Department says it happened on East Empire Avenue between Yore Avenue and Highpoint Drive.

Arriving officers found a Toyota Rav 4 and a Ford F-150 badly damaged. They learned the Rav 4, driven by a 65-year-old St. Joseph man, had crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic, striking the Ford, which was driven by a 52-year-old Watervliet man.

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the F-150 was taken to Corewell Health South with non life threatening injuries.

It’s not yet known why the Toyota crossed the centerline. Once the investigation is complete, police will refer the matter to the Berrien County Prosecutor’s office for review.
