Report: Michigan job creation falling short of expectations

The state of Michigan has come up short when it comes to job creation during Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s six years in office.

A new report from Bridge Michigan shows that while nearly $1 billion dollars was meant to be invested in over 300 companies to create jobs, only a fraction of the expected job creation has actually happened.

Bridge Michigan’s Paula Gardner spoke with Michigan News Network.

About $2.5 billion has been promised, about a billion has been spent,” Gardner said. “If all had worked perfectly, the state would have gained about 65,000 jobs, or 2% of how many private jobs we already have in the state, but it hasn’t worked perfectly. And today we have about 13,000 jobs.”

The Bridge analysis revealed that deals are often revised and downsized.
