The running course at Whirlpool’s Global Headquarters north of Benton Harbor will be a busy place this Friday as Girls on the Run of Southwest Michigan hosts its annual Celebration 5K.
Girls on the Run is a national program that teaches girls all about sportsmanship, discipline, self-esteem, and camaraderie. It’s invited girls from all walks of life to take part in 5K runs since 1996, and these days, more than 2 million girls take part each year.
irls on the Run of Southwest Michigan says this Friday’s Celebration 5K is open to the public with a $30 registration fee, and all proceeds support Girls on the Run of Southwest Michigan.
Last year, more than 1,000 participants — including program girls, families, and community members — joined the event.
The non-timed fun run begins at 6:00 p.m. with girls and families requested to arrive by 5 and community runners by 5:30. A warm-up and short program start at 5:40 p.m.
Program Amber Hagarbome says Girls on the Run “empowers girls of all abilities to discover their unique strengths while fostering a sense of community in a team environment.”
