William Eugene Goben (“Bill”), 59, of Watervliet, was born on Jan. 10, 1966, and he died on April 20, 2025, at Lakeland Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital, in St. Joseph, MI.
Bill passed away from heart failure after spending more than a week in the hospital. Approximately 2-years prior to his passing, he was diagnosed with a progressively degenerative, incurable, neurological disorder called Multiple Systems Atrophy of the Cerebellar (MSA-c).
After getting to know Bill, you knew he was a very kind, caring and humble person. He was always willing to help others in need. For many years, he worked as a materials handler in plastics manufacturing; he also worked as a maintenance worker for apartment buildings.
Bill loved his son Cody and grandchild, Joslyn, more than anything. While he carried a very special love for someone, he never married. Bill loved spending time with his family and volunteering as a seasonal Salvation Army Bell Ringer. He was passionate about fireworks, fishing and fast cars. Bill also found joy in helping to care for his mother, for many years, prior to her passing.
Bill is survived by his son, William “Cody” Goben (Brooklyn Dumont); a granddaughter, Joslyn Goben; five (5) siblings and their spouses: Steve (Cathy), Reva, Doug (Jan), James (Carrie), and Gary; also, many nieces and nephews – a notable few: Jackie (Tasha), Jennifer (Gage), JJ, Juanita, and Sammie.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents: James and Margie; seven (7) siblings; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will host a Celebration of Life for Bill on May 17, 2025, between 6-9 p.m. at Next Door Events, 340 N. Main Street, Watervliet, MI (located next to the Flower Basket Flower Shop). Bill was a casual kind of guy, so respectfully, come dressed as you are.
