Dan’s life began December 26, 1946 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. When he was two and a half his family moved to Pittsburgh where he grew up and graduated from Hampton High School. After high school Dan continued his education at Western Michigan University on a scholarship. While there his parents returned to Michigan and settled in Muskegon. Dan worked as the office manager for Berrien County office for State of Michigan Department of Human Services. While working there he met his wife Barbara and they married August 27, 1988 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Watervliet. Dan loved his community of Watervliet and showed that through being active in the Paw Paw Lake Rotary, he was elected to Watervliet City Commission in 1988, he then served as Mayor of Watervliet for eight years. Following his years as mayor Dan served on the planning commission. When Dan wasn’t working or serving his community you could find him gardening or enjoying his photography hobby.

Dan leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory including: his wife of 36 years Barbara (Flaherty) Schofield; a daughter Kelly (Aaron) Carambula; three grandchildren Devon Flowers, Claire Carambula, and Quinn Carambula; two brothers Scott (Nancy) Schofield and Tim (Paula) Schofield; a sister Ruth Schofield; three brothers-in-law Jim (Trish) Flaherty, John (Marilyn) Flaherty, and David Flaherty; two sisters-in-law Pam Loyd and Nancy (Jimmie) Paskel; several nieces and nephews; and a good friend Ryan Flowers.
