Artificial intelligence is causing skyrocketing demand for electricity in Michigan and nationwide.

David Holt, the president of the Consumer Energy Alliance, says strain is being put on Michigan’s grid with every AI search.

One Google search today that we all do every single day, one Google search today uses about, let’s call it one unit of power,” Holt said. “A Google search using AI uses 10 units of power, 10 times as much power.”

Holt says every Google search will soon be an AI search, and that increases demand for electricity at AI data centers.
