NCAAWBB – ACC – Notre Dame, NC State headline the ACC women’s tournament field
Sixth-ranked Notre Dame and No. 7 N.C. State headline the field for the Atlantic Coast Conference women’s tournament. The Fighting Irish are the reigning champion and were the preseason favorite to win the league. The Wolfpack claimed a share of the regular-season title and earned the No. 1 seed. The teams met in last year’s final won by Notre Dame. The tournament begins Wednesday in Greensboro, North Carolina. It features five AP Top 25 teams. That includes No. 11 Duke, No. 14 North Carolina and No. 22 Florida State. The title game is Sunday.
NCAAWBB – Notre Dame’s Hidalgo, NC State’s Moore headline list of ACC women’s awards
Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo is the Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year, while N.C. State’s Wes Moore is coach of the year. The league released its all-conference honors Tuesday. That came the day before opening play in the ACC Tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina. Hidalgo is the nation’s No. 3 scorer at 24.2 points and was also voted as league defensive player of the year. Moore coached the Wolfpack to a share of the ACC regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament. Honors included Duke freshman Toby Fournier as league rookie of the year.
NCAAWBB – Big Ten – Big Ten stage appears for another round between USC and UCLA
The final regular season weekend gave women’s basketball fans a potential preview of this week’s Big Ten Tournament. Southern California dominated its crosstown rival UCLA, completing a season sweep of the Bruins to win the league title. Maryland got a 3-pointer with 1 second left to beat Ohio State. Each team now comes to Indianapolis with a top four seed, a double bye into Friday’s quarterfinal round, and, yes, with something to prove this week.
NCAA – ACC, Clemson, Florida State approve settlement to end legal fight
The Atlantic Coast Conference, Clemson and Florida State have approved a settlement that would end their legal fights. The deal would change the league’s revenue-distribution model to factor in viewership ratings in payments to schools. That could benefit the league’s top brands and marquee programs. It also revises and clarifies long-term costs for a school to leave the conference. Each party approved the settlement Tuesday. Commissioner Jim Phillips said in a statement that the league is “united in an 18-member conference” for the future. All lawsuits in Florida and the Carolinas between the schools and the league will be dismissed.
NFL – Rams trading Jonah Jackson to Bears for 6th-round pick
The Los Angeles Rams have agreed to trade offensive lineman Jonah Jackson to the Chicago Bears for a sixth-round pick in the upcoming draft, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press. Jackson leaves the Rams following one tremendously disappointing season in which he failed to hold a starting job after signing a three-year, $51 million contract with Los Angeles as a free agent last spring. Jackson spent his first four NFL seasons with the Detroit Lions. Jackson initially was expected to be the Rams’ left guard, but he was moved to center during training camp.
