It’s been nearly a decade since Michigan has seen a tornado in November, but that changed following inclement weather in northern Oakland County Sunday night.

The National Weather Service has published a survey that shows an EF-0 tornado blew through the Village of Holly around 7 p.m. NWS Senior Director Mike Richter says the conditions for a tornado are exceedingly rare this late in the year.

For the Southeast Michigan area, the area that we represent, this makes the 6th November tornado,” Richter said. “The last one was November 6, 2015. We had three tornadoes up in the Thumb area. So it’s been a few years.”

Holly police say there was substantial damage caused by the tornado. That included building damage as well as trees and power lines being knocked down.
