A Bangor man is dead and a Lawrence woman seriously injured following a two-vehicle crash in Van Buren County’s Geneva Township on Monday.
The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says it happened on M-43 near 66th Street around 5 a.m.
Deputies arrived at the scene to learn a Toyota Camry had been eastbound in the 65,000 block of M-43 when a deer ran out into the road. The driver hit the deer, causing him to lose control and drive into the westbound lane. That caused a nearly head-on crash with a westbound Chevy Traverse.
Both drivers were then trapped in their vehicles. The driver of the Camry, identified as a 28-year-old Bangor man, was later pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Traverse, a 36-year-old Lawrence woman, was taken to a hospital.
s a result of the crash, M-43 was shut down for several hours. Michigan State Police are now investigating.
