Tigers 3, Guardians 0 – Tigers blank Guardians 3-0 in ALDS with clutch hitting and strong pitching, lead 2-1
Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson each drove in a run, and six pitchers combined to lift the Detroit Tigers to a 3-0 win over Cleveland Guardians and a 2-1 lead in their AL Division Series. The Tigers, baseball’s hottest team the past two months, will have their first chance to advance to the American League Championship Series since 2013 on Thursday night in Game 4 at Comerica Park. Cleveland has gone 20 straight innings without scoring since opening the series with a five-run first and a two-run sixth in its 7-0 win.  It’s the first time Detroit has recorded two shutouts in a postseason series. It’s also the first time since the 1905 World Series that the first three games of a postseason series all were shutouts.

MLB – Cleveland shut out by Detroit for 2nd straight game in AL Division Series
The Cleveland Guardians knew what was coming in Game 3, and it didn’t matter. The pitching plans for the Detroit Tigers are working quite well at the moment. Detroit sent six pitchers to the mound while shutting out Cleveland for the second straight game, winning 3-0 to take a 2-1 lead in their AL Division Series. Cleveland has a chance to send the ALDS back home with a win on Thursday night. Vogt said Tanner Bibee will start Game 4 for the AL Central champions. The Tigers are looking to advance to the American League Championship Series for the first time since 2013.

NFL – Chicago Bears stay focused on city’s lakefront for new stadium, team president says
The Chicago Bears remain focused on the city’s lakefront as the location for a nearly $5 billion stadium development project. Team president Kevin Warren spoke at a news conference at the team’s hotel outside London ahead of Chicago’s game on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He says the Museum Campus “remains our focus at this point in time.” A proposal unveiled earlier this year calls for an enclosed stadium next door to their current home at Soldier Field as part of a major project that would transform the lakefront. The Bears are asking for public funding to help make it happen.

NFL – Bears appreciate ‘bossy’ QB Caleb Williams and get acclimated to London
Bears wide receiver DJ Moore says rookie quarterback Caleb Williams has been “bossy” lately. Seems to be working. The Bears are in London to face the Jacksonville Jaguars after back-to-back wins in which Williams began to show why he was the No. 1 pick in the draft. Williams threw two touchdown passes to Moore in Chicago’s 36-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers. That followed a 24-18 win over the Los Angeles Rams. Moore says “that’s him being a leader.” The Bears face the Jaguars on Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

NFL – Rodgers says allegations that he played a role in Saleh’s firing are ‘patently false’
Aaron Rodgers insisted he played no role in the firing of Robert Saleh as the New York Jets coach and called such allegations “patently false.” The star quarterback made his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday, a day after Jets owner Woody Johnson fired Saleh after the team got off to a 2-3 start in the coach’s fourth season. There was speculation by some media and fans that Rodgers might have had a hand in influencing Johnson, who said during a conference call Tuesday the decision was “my decision and my decision alone.” Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will be the Jets’ interim head coach the rest of the season.

WNBA – Sky are light on details in their decision to fire Weatherspoon after 1 year
Chicago Sky officials were light on specifics when discussing their decision to fire former coach Teresa Weatherspoon after one season. They say there was no particular catalyst and that it was simply time to move on from the Naismith Hall of Famer. General manager Jeff Pagliocca says the Sky "just felt it was time to make a change.” The Sky fired Weatherspoon two weeks ago after finishing with a 13-27 record and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2018 despite getting significant contributions from rookie post players Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. The next coach will be the team’s fourth since the Sky won the WNBA championship in 2021.

Milton – Milton damages the roof of the Rays’ stadium; NBA preseason game called off
The fabric roof over the home of baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays was ripped to shreds after Hurricane Milton came ashore in Florida, bringing wind gusts exceeding 100 mph and flooding parts of the state. Concerns over Milton and its effects on Florida also forced the cancellation of Friday’s NBA preseason game in Orlando between the Magic and the New Orleans Pelicans. The game won’t be rescheduled. Orlando was playing at San Antonio on Wednesday night and was scheduled to return to Central Florida on Thursday. Those plans are now in flux because of the storm, which made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida, on Wednesday night.

NCAA – NCAA approves cutting football, basketball transfer portal from 45 to 30 days
The NCAA’s Division I Council has approved changes that will shorten the transfer portal windows for football and basketball from 45 to 30 days while keeping an additional 30-day window in all sports after the departure of a head coach. The new fall window will be 20 days after Bowl Subdivision conference championships from Dec. 9-28, with the remaining 10 days occurring from April 16-25 next spring. Basketball’s current window of March 17-April 30, 2025, will shorten to 30 days after the second round of the NCAA Tournament. On3 first reported the changes, which take effect after meetings end on Wednesday.

NCAAFB – Time is not on visitor’s side so far on long road trips in Big Ten
No. 2 Ohio State at No. 3 Oregon is an even matchup on paper. One intangible would appear to favor the Ducks. The Big Ten is now a coast-to-coast conference with its expansion to 18 teams and early indicators show travel takes a toll. Teams playing at opponents three time zones away are a combined 1-8 in conference games. Indiana, from the Eastern time zone, won on the road against UCLA for the only victory. The 4:30 p.m. Pacific kickoff for Ohio State-Oregon is the standard 7:30 p.m. Eastern start. Ohio State coach Ryan Days says it’s a non-factor.

NCAAFB – Big Ten/SEC meet to take more control of future of college football
The Big Ten and SEC already have the upper hand in college football. At meetings this week, their leaders are setting the stage to exact even more control over the sport’s future. Among the talking points when a task force made of members from the conferences meets in Nashville, Tennessee, are the future of the expanded college football playoff and a possible scheduling agreement between the two conferences that would indirectly make it harder for the rest of college football to compete for the 12 or possibly 14 spots available in the postseason.
