An man has been charged with animal abuse from inside of the Genesee County Jail.
At a press conference this week, Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson showed the video evidence of 27-year-old Romello Maxwell hitting a 13-month old emotional support dog named Josie.
“But he pulled back and struck Josie hard enough that created a concussion, scraped the inside of her pupil,” Swanson said. “She was sent to Oakland County to the vet emergency. She stayed there a day and a half. We had to get an MRI. We thought that there may have been a brain bleed.”
Swanson says the dog is doing better.
Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton notes that Maxwell is a habitual offender that faces the maximum of eight years for the charge of animal abuse.
