
Virgil S. Callendar, 76, of Benton Harbor, passed away on August 17, 2024 at Corewell Health Lakeland in St. Joseph.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 22 at Grace Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. Burial with military rites will be held at North Shore Memory Gardens. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma. Virgil was born July 1, 1948 in Benton Harbor to Millard “Red” and Marion (Fikes) Callendar. He graduated from Benton Harbor in 1966 and served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. Following the Navy, he worked for Clark Equipment and retired from Bosch after many years. Virgil was in a band called the Ghosters, making a record that you can find today on YouTube and performed at Shadowland in Benton Harbor. He enjoyed camping and had a love for all things cars, including building them from the ground up, and was a jack of all trades with a wealth of knowledge.
Virgil is survived by his wife Jean (Hinz) whom he married January 2, 1971; his children Kimberly Callendar, Stacey (Donnie) Blevins and Ryan Callendar; siblings Judy Hasselbring and Gary Callendar; two grandchildren Tia (Kenny) Blevins-Millsap and Dalton (Angel Medrano) Callendar and one great granddaughter Marianna Callendar-Medrano. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents.
