The Berrien County Youth Fair is underway this week with rides, food, games, animal displays, vendors, and fun in Berrien Springs.
Tuesday was both Kids Day and Law Enforcement Day, featuring the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department. Undersheriff Greg Sanders told us the department had representatives of the marine division, the motor unit, the tactical response unit, the crime prevention unit, and the bomb unit all on hand.
“It’s a great way to interact with the public in a positive way, get the word out,” Sanders said. “It’s a great way to promote law enforcement and hopefully we can recruit people into this exciting and challenging career. We also like to give the public an opportunity to maybe participate. We’re always taking applications for the reserve unit.”
Sanders said they also had tactical vehicles and equipment on display for the kids to inspect. Tuesday also happened to be Kids Day, so he expected a lot of young people to interact with their sheriff’s department.
The fun at the fair continues Wednesday with a performance by country star Randy Houser on the grandstand. Thursday will feature the music of Abba, direct from Sweden.
More than 100,000 people are expected to attend the fair this week.
