
Voters around Southwest Michigan headed to the polls on Tuesday to make their choices in dozens of primaries and to decide local ballot questions.
Fourth District Republican Congressman Bill Huizenga coasted to an easy primary win. He’ll face Democrat Jessica Swartz in November.
Fifth District Republican Congressman Tim Walberg didn’t have a primary challenger. He’ll face Democrat Libbi Urban in November.
Winning the Republican nomination to take on Democratic state Representative Joey Andrews in state House District 37 this November was Kevin Whiteford.
Republican State Representative Pauline Wendzel fended off a primary challenge in the 39th District. There was also a Democratic primary in the 39th. Kerry Tapper beat Jared Polonowski to take on Wendzel in November.
Republican State Representative Brad Paquette did not face a primary challenge in the 37th District. He’ll go up against Democrat Angela Jones in November.
Countywide races in Berrien County
Prosecutor: Amy Byrd (R) will face Trevor J. Maveal (D) in November.
Clerk: Stacy Loar-Porter (R) will face Jessica Jackson (D).
Sheriff: Chuck Heit (R) won the primary and no Democrat party candidate filed for the primary.
Treasurer: Shelly Weich (R) won the primary and no Democrat party candidate filed for the primary.
Register of Deeds: Lora Gnodtke Freehling (R) won the primary.
Drain Commissioner: George McManus (R) defeated incumbent Christopher Quattrin. No Democrat party candidate filed for the primary.
Surveyor: John G. Kamer (R) won the primary. No Democrat party candidate filed for the primary.

Van Buren County
In Van Buren County, countywide elected officer holders all cruised to easy Republican primary victories with no challengers. They include Sheriff Dan Abbott and Clerk Suzie Roehm.
Township races all across Van Buren County were decided, along with township ballot questions. Voters said yes to most. You can find the results here.
Countywide ballot proposals in Van Buren County were all approved. They included the county 911 surcharge millage, the county roads millage, the county public transit millage, and the county veterans services millage.
Cass County countywide office results
Prosecutor: Victor Fitz (R) was unopposed. No Democrat party candidate filed for the primary.
Sheriff: Clint Roach (R) won the nomination. No Democrat party candidate filed for the primary.
Clerk and Register of Deeds: Monica McMichael (R) was unopposed. No Democrat party candidate filed for the primary.
Treasurer: Hope Anderson (R) was unopposed. No Democrat party candidate filed for the primary.
Drain Commissioner: Jeff VanBelle (R) won the nomination. No Democrat party candidate filed for the primary.
