A 42-year-old Canadian man trying to smuggle more than 260-pounds of cocaine across the border via the Blue Water Bridge into Canada is being held in a Michigan jail after being busted last week.

Juli Sathi-asee-lan was caught at the bridge by federal border agents with help from the St. Clair County Drug Task Force. Sheriff Mat King says the investigation could take months, if not years.

It’s not like a half a kilo where we would probably trace it back to a residence either in our county or a neighboring county,” King said. “This is a large amount that was obviously transported through states, so the investigation will take months and months and will involve our drug task force as well as some of our federal partners to try to trace it back to the source individuals so that we can get charges on the who are distributing these drugs in our community.”

King says this is one of the larger drug busts his office has seen and that they have become more frequent over the last five years.
