
Marilyn Ponegalek, age 78, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 10, 1946, in Chicago, IL, Marilyn lived a life full of love, warmth, and simplicity. She married the late John Ponegalek on March 19, 1966, and together they built a beautiful life, eventually relocating to the Harbor Country area where they raised their three beloved daughters.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters Christine (Allan) Gnodtke, Carey (Dave) Lohraff, and Candi (Jay) Czuk. She was a devoted Grandmother and Mucka to her seven grandchildren: Tyler Gnodtke, Kyle (Casey) Gnodtke, Kelsey Gnodtke, Julia Lohraff (Logan Caulfield), Jacob Lohraff, Brandon Czuk, and Olivia Czuk. Her family further blossomed with the addition of her two great-grandchildren, Forrest Caulfield and Josephine Gnodtke. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded by death by her parents, Louis and Ann Pavur, and her brother, Michael Pavur.
Marilyn’s life was centered around her family, creating a nurturing and loving home for her daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. She was known for her feisty personality, competitive spirit in card games and her passion for being near the water. Marilyn was a Notre Dame football fan, she also had a green thumb and took great joy in tending to her flower gardens.
Her legacy of love and family will forever be cherished by those who knew her. She will be deeply missed but always remembered for the beautiful memories she created and the warmth she brought to everyone’s lives.
A private family service will be held to honor Marilyn’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Marilyn’s memory.
