Restaurants worry about ruling on minimum wage

With the recent minimum wage decision from the Michigan Supreme Court, bars and restaurants will most likely have to change business models.

The court ruled this week that tipped workers, like servers, must be paid the same minimum wage as everyone else. That could mean more self-serve kiosks, or in some cases, restaurants close all together.

John Sellek with Save MI Tips believes bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues will start to adjust immediately.

Practically on the very first day of February 21st, just 205 days from today, the cost of labor increases are basically going to cause harsh economic decisions to be made by restaurants long before then,” Sellek said.

Save MI Tips says 70% of servers believe restaurants will be forced to raise menu prices as a result.
