The 25-year-old Crochet made his first career start on opening day and currently holds the AL strikeout lead with 160. Robert leads the team with 14 stolen bases, and has 12 home runs and 25 RBIs this season. The Baltimore Orioles have acquired outfielder Eloy Jiménez from the Chicago White Sox for minor league left-hander Trey McGough. Devin Hester will put the ultimate exclamation mark on his career on Saturday in Canton, Ohio, when he becomes the first player inducted primarily as a return specialist. He is one of three former Bears in this year’s class, along with Julius Peppers and Steve McMichael. The NFL had never seen someone like Hester when the Bears drafted him in the second round in 2006. He returned a league-record 14 punts for touchdowns and ran back five more kickoffs for scores during an 11-year career spent mostly with the Bears.

Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore has agreed to a four-year, $110 million contract extension with $82.6 million guaranteed. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Moore also received a $20 million signing bonus. The Bears acquired Moore last year in a high-profile trade from the Carolina Panthers. Moore led the Bears last season with 96 receptions for 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns. Moore had two years remaining on an extension he signed with Carolina. This deal puts him under contract through 2029.
NFL – Rookie QB Caleb Williams and other Bears starters will sit in preseason opener
The Chicago Bears will not start rookie quarterback Caleb Williams in Thursday’s Hall of Fame Game against Houston. Coach Matt Eberflus said Tuesday that the No. 1 pick in the draft from Southern Caifornia and all the Bears starters are sitting out the game. Eberflus wants to take a look at players vying for a roster spot in the game and could use Williams in any of the other three preseason games. The announcement came a day after Williams said he was hoping to play against the Texans.

Olympics – Biles and Team USA earn ‘redemption’ by powering to gold
“The Redemption Tour” ended in a familiar spot for Simone Biles: atop the Olympic podium. The American gymnastics star and her singular brilliance powered a dominant U.S. women’s team in the finals inside a raucous Bercy Arena. With Biles at her show-stopping best, the Americans’ total of 171.296 was well clear of Italy and Brazil and the exclamation point of a yearlong run in which Biles has cemented her legacy as the greatest ever in her sport and among the best in the history of the Olympics.
Olympics – US women win a first Olympic medal in rugby sevens
Alex Sedrick ran the length of the field to give the U.S. women a first Olympic rugby sevens medal with a stunning stoppage-time comeback win over Australia in the bronze-medal match. The 2016 champion Australians were leading 12-7 with seconds remaining and deep in U.S. territory. The ball went to Sedrick and she bumped off two tacklers before racing all the way to the other end to touch down and then convert the try. Ilona Maher and the rest of the Americans rushed down the field to celebrate the 14-12 victory. The U.S. women had earlier reached the Olympic semifinals for the first time and lost to eventual champion New Zealand.
