Governor Gretchen Whitmer was on CBS Mornings on Monday, promoting her new book and campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris.

There’s been some speculation Whitmer could be the running mate for Harris, but Whitmer shot that down.

I have communicated with everyone, including the people of Michigan, that I’m going to stay as governor until the end of my term at the end of 2026,” Whitmer said. “So, I am not a part of the vetting.”

Whitmer said Harris is looking at a handful of possibilities and is likely to announce her running mate in the next week.

The governor added said enthusiasm for Harris among Democrats is high, and she believes the Harris campaign will really ramp up as we head into the Democratic National Convention.

Part of the focus is going to continue to be getting ready for convention where we can show people across the country that a Harris administration means your life’s going to get better. It means more money in your pocket. She knows how to solve problems and get things done and that’s really, I think, going to be very evident.”

Will Whitmer run for president in 2028? She answered that she doesn’t know at all what she’ll be doing in 2028.
