With the passage of the federal Fire Grants and Safety Act, millions of dollars will be available to local fire departments.

Senator Gary Peters has secured the re-authorization of $95 million dollars for fire department grants, which will help with equipment, training, and education programs.

We have to remember our firefighters and EMS are called into all sorts of situations and need a wide range of equipment, as well as training for their personnel,” Peters said. “That’s what this grant funds will use.”

In 2022, Michigan received nearly $24 million through those programs. The funding is now re-authorized through 2028.

Peters joined President Joe Biden for the signing of his firefighters bill this week.
