It is with deep sorrow that we remember the life of Carol Klassen, who was born Carol Mae Beebe on December 23, 1932, in Michigan City, Indiana. Carol passed away on July 8, 2024, in Stevensville, Michigan. She was known for her creative spirit, resilience, and thoughtfulness, attributes that touched the lives of all who knew her.
Carol graduated from Purdue University, where she met her husband John of 65 years. She was a member of the Purdue Alumni Association, the AAUW, and a volunteer at the Krasl Art Center. Carol was a brilliant baker, her pies and breads along with her cross-stitch work, were shared with many. She was also known for her creative homemade cards, each carrying a unique touch of Carol’s love and thoughtfulness. Carol also enjoyed golfing with friends, family, traveling and loved playing games with her grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her beloved children, Jane Klassen, Brian (Vickie) Klassen, Martin (Lori) Klassen, Anne (Kraig) Klassen-Brunner, Philip (Bev) Klassen, Stephen (Barb) Klassen, and Julia (Mike) Pechtel. She was a proud grandmother of Nicholas Handy, Scott (Nicole) Klassen, Lisa (Adam) Brewer, Heather (Jason) Wilt, Mark (Meghan) Hunt, Sarah (Jason) Petrofsky, AJ Hepler, Bec Brunner, Natalie Brunner, Nicole (Jake) Warrens, Kristopher Klassen, Casey Klassen, Colin (Emily) Pechtel, Logan (Samantha) Pechtel, and Amber Pechtel. She was a great-grandmother to Devan, Payton, Amelia, Lila, Oliver, Anastasia, and Lena. Also survived by a wonderful sister Betty Hak and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, William and Marjorie Beebe, her brother Paul Beebe, her loving husband John Jr., and their son John III.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024, at 10:00AM EDT at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 5760 Sawyer Road, Sawyer, Michigan, 49125. A service will follow at the same location at 11:00AM EDT, and burial at Ruggles Cemetery in Baroda, Michigan. Please join us in remembering and celebrating Carol’s life.
