Monday was the two-year anniversary of the Supreme Court decision that struck down Roe vs. Wade, ending nationwide abortion rights and kicking the issue down to the states.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer marked the occasion with a social media post warning more could be coming. She used the opportunity plug for President Joe Biden.
“By overturning Roe, Trump unleashed extreme abortion bans in states all across the country that now put women’s lives at risk and threaten doctors and nurses with jail time,” Whitmer said. “In fact, more than one in five women of reproductive age now lives under an abortion ban, and they’re trying to make that true for us all.”
Whitmer said Trump supports a nationwide abortion ban. That would supersede Michigan’s constitutional amendment guaranteeing reproductive freedom, approved by voters in 2023.
Whitmer called these dangerous times for women and urged supporters to back Biden.
