Cane Island- Shea Skye Curtis, 49, on the morning of June 6, 2024, Shea gained her angel wings in the arms of her husband.
She was born to Rhonda McCormick and Jim Crow on November 1, 1974 in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Shea was a member of Bethabara Baptist Church. She graduated from Buffalo Island Central High School and went on to college at Arkansas State University. She became an elementary teacher, she taught at Osceola East Elementary for fifteen years. Shea never had any children of her own but she was blessed with many cousins, nieces, nephews and siblings that she loved dearly. She also had the joy of playing a part in raising Shelby and Slade Owen Gilley, Slade preceded her in death on November 29, 2014 at age 11. Her family has peace knowing that Slade has been reunited with his Shea Shea again.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Rhonda McCormick and Jim Crow; grandparents, Andy and Wanda Zelko and Herbert and Velma Cullum; step-brother, Brian Brooks and step-dad, Ron Brooks.
Shea is survived by her husband, Brad Curtis of the home; brothers, Casey McCormick of the home and Jeremy (Alexandra) Crow of Florida; half-sisters, Sunshine Burke of Monette and Sarah Adtkins of Mississippi; aunt, Marsha Demler of Michigan; uncles, Mike Zelko and Lynn Zelko of Michigan; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Bethabara Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Duffel and Darin Owens officiating. Interment followed at Cane Island Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.
The family received friends from 1:00 until time of service Tuesday at the church.
Honored to serve as pallbearers were William Curtis, Randall Curtis, Darin Owens, Marvin White, Mike Shields and Erick Lyerly and as honorary pallbearers, the Buffalo Island Central High School Class of 1992.
