Recall petitions against two Benton Harbor City Commissioners have been rejected by the Berrien County Election Commission.
At a meeting Tuesday, the commission rejected as unclear the recall language submitted against Commissioners Duane Seats and Ron Singleton. The petitions submitted by resident Shari Szilagyi said the two commissioners should be removed from office for voting to establish a social district in downtown Benton Harbor.
According to The Herald Palladium, the election commission said that because the petition against Seats referred to him as mayor pro tem, it was unclear. That’s because Seats was elected as a city commissioner and later appointed mayor pro tem.
Meanwhile, the language against Singleton was simply rejected for being unclear.
