Tourism has had a $48.5 billion impact in Michigan in 2022 and tourism officials are asking for money for Pure Michigan in the next budget.
Justin Winslow is the president of the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association.
“Current funding at $15 million for the Pure Michigan Tourism Campaign and the current fiscal year and is proposed for the year ahead is simply not enough,” Winslow said. “It’s not enough to sustain the $50 billion industry and the nearly 500,000 jobs that we have proudly built here in Michigan. It’s not enough to effectively compete with many of our surrounding states that have invested a lot of federal funding in recent years to outspend Michigan.”
Tourism officials say there’s a nine dollar return for every dollar spent on tourism in the state.
