Lincoln Township seeking renewal of police millage

Lincoln Township voters will be asked this year to renew the police operating millage.

Speaking to township trustees Tuesday, Clerk Stacy Loar-Porter said the millage funds all police operations and has been in place for a long time.

Without this millage, we would pretty much have to lay off half the police department,” Loar-Porter said. “This millage pays for labor, equipment, and just the general operation of the police department. The police department is fully funded through its own millages. It does not require any transfers from the general fund.”

Loar-Porter said the millage needs to be renewed every eight years. The renewal to be considered by voters in August is just that — a renewal, and not an increase. The assessment is 1.5 mills.

The board of trustees Tuesday authorized placing the renewal on the ballot.
