Registrations are still being taken for the LGBTQ+ Civil Rights Forum planned in Buchanan this weekend.
Buchanan Area Senior Center Director Adam Burck tells us it’s an important year for the community to be aware and take action.
“They’re going to talk about recent advances in LGBTQ civil rights, and then some issues looming on the horizon, and then talk about this year’s election, how people can get involved to help advance LGBTQ plus civil rights,” Burck said.
The guest speakers will be The OutCenter’s Mary Jo Schnell, the ACLU’s Jay Kaplan, and Equality Michigan’s Emme Zanotti.
Burck says the response to the event has been promising.
“We have around 40 people registered so far, so we’re hoping we get 50 or more. It’s going to be some really great information, so not something that’s happening a lot in our area.”
In fact, Burck says other LGBTQ+ organizations around the state started planning something similar when they heard about the Buchanan event.
The forum will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Buchanan Area Senior Center. You can register right here.
