It’s all clear at Niles Community Schools after district buildings were locked down and Ballard Elementary School was evacuated Friday due to a bomb threat.
The district evacuated all the kids from Ballard and transported them to Niles High School while their building was searched. The search turned up nothing and the district lockdown was ended Friday afternoon.
Niles Community Schools Superintendent Dan Applegate says the district’s top priority is the safety and well-being of students, families, teachers, and staff. He said, “All students are safe and accounted for, and the building and grounds have been cleared after a thorough search…We will continue to work closely with local law enforcement to address this matter.”
Applegate added everyone should know the district takes the situation very seriously.
Just after 10 a.m. Friday, our Mid-West Family staff was contacted with a warning via email that contained a specific threat — presumably from the alleged person responsible for instigating the incident. Our staff immediately contacted the police with that information.
