Part of Red Arrow Highway in New Buffalo Township will close on Monday for a Berrien County Road Department project.
The department’s Adri Boone tells us they’re reconstructing Red Arrow Highway from US-12 to Community Hall Road.
“Monday there will be a road closure to through traffic,” Boone said. “Local traffic is permitted, but they are going to need to be aware of some of those hard closures for the drainage improvements.”
The hard closures will be in effect when two culverts are replaced. One is south of Lakeshore Road, and the other is just south of Community Hall Road. Boone says the road department will have the culvert work done and the road will be back open by May.
“We are trying to work really closely with the community. We want to get the most interruptive portions of the construction done before summer. That is our targeted goal with this project.”
The overall repaving project will continue through November, but Red Arrow Highway will be back open with one lane in each direction for the summer.
Boone notes this work will involve Red Arrow Highway being placed on a road diet, being reduced from four lanes to two travel lanes and a center turn lane.
The work also includes additional construction of the Red Arrow Linear Trail.
