Tornado Warnings issued in SW Michigan

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a Tornado Warning for Southeastern Van Buren County in southwestern Michigan until 11:45PM EST. At 10:55PM EST, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 7 miles south of Watervliet, or 8 miles northwest of Dowagiac, moving EAST, AT 40 mph.

Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.

Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely. This dangerous storm will be near, Hartford and Decatur around 11:00PM EST. Paw Paw and Lawton around 11:10PM EST. Other locations in the path of this tornadic thunderstorm include Mattawan.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS, TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

Earlier warnings included northeast Berrien County. No reports of tornado touchdown at this time.
