Tax credits could soon be coming to volunteer firefighters and first responders.

Under the legislation authored by state Representative Graham Filler, firefighters or EMS personnel working at least ten hours a month would get $$2,500 tax credits.

Filler says these volunteers have a great passion for serving our communities.

These volunteers are doing it out of care for the public and care for public safety, a passion that they have, and they spend some of their own money to do it,” Filler said. “This credit will really inspire individuals to continue their service and may even help with the recruiting and retention.”

If the legislation is passed, the credits will be available starting with the 2024 tax year.
