Michigan is being hit with a second wave of winter illnesses.

Dr. Gretchen Newman is an infectious disease specialist with the Detroit Medical Center. She says the first wave was around the holidays, and the second is now.

The reason for the spike is unclear.

Why is really hard to say,” Newman said. “I think that the message that I’m telling my patients in the clinic is it is absolutely not too late to get your flu shot this year. It is still likely valuable to you and really trying to up the vaccination rate.”

Dr. Newman says the current spike includes the flu, COVID, and other respiratory viruses.
