Vernon Roy Barker, a cherished soul known for his wisdom and kindness, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2024, in Niles, Michigan, at the age of 76. Born on January 9, 1948, in Neelyville, Missouri, to the late Jasper and Christine (Everett) Barker.
Vernon’s educational journey led him to earn an associate’s degree, which paved the way for his long and dedicated career. For 32 years, he was a valued employee at Whirlpool Corp., where he retired as a Model Maker.
Beyond his professional life, Vernon was an artist at heart, with a particular passion for woodworking. He found joy in creating, and his famed Pop Can Fish became a beloved project among many. His art was not just a hobby, but a way of connecting with others, as he enjoyed making projects for those around him.
Vernon’s life was enriched by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Djuanna (Scott) Barker, and his children, Clint (Diana) Barker, Jerry Frye, Glen Frye, Sherry Bunch, and Lorene (Paul) Stinnett. He will be missed by his younger sisters, Wanda Daughtery, Susie (Bill) Shine, Theresa (Bill) Villa, and Tena (Michael) Brumstead.
Those who knew Vernon will remember him as a wise and kind man. His gentle spirit and generous nature left a lasting impact on everyone he met. Vernon’s legacy is one of love, creativity, and dedication—a legacy that will continue to live on through the lives of his family and the many people he touched.
