West MI Policy Chair: Whitmer’s State of the State missed the mark

In her State of the State address this week, Governor Gretchen Whitmer called for pre-K education for all children, a caregiver tax credit, community college for all high school grads, and rebuilding Michigan with a housing investment.

West Michigan Policy Forum Chair John Kennedy says he likes that we’re focused on growth and economic development in Michigan, he but feels we’re going about it the wrong way.

“If you look at these large, targeted tax credits, like some of the recent ones that we did…we’re paying $700,000 per job,” Kennedy said. “So, it tends to favor very big business.”

Kennedy says we should be looking at what it takes to make Michigan a competitive state.
