The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has honored the University of Michigan’s football team for winning the National Championship this year.

At this week’s meeting, the board approved an honorary resolution not only saluting the Wolverines for their big win, but also focusing on a local connection. Commissioner Dave Vollrath read that number 36, Keshaun Harris, is from Berrien County.

“Harris, born in St. Joseph, Michigan, is the grandson of Benton Harbor’s Steve Archibald, and while Harris ultimately attended school in the Lansing area, he has family ties here in Berrien County as both his parents attended Benton Harbor High School and participated in athletics for the Tigers,” Vollrath read.

The resolution noted Harris was a 2019 walk on for the Wolverines. During the 2023 season, he had six solo tackles, five assists, and 1.5 tackles for a loss.

His grandfather, Steve Archibald, accepted the resolution on behalf of the family at Thursday’s meeting. Archibald said when his grandson was a baby, he bought the baby a U of M onesie, while another loved one bought him an MSU onesie. Eventually, Harris went with Blue.
