
Niles Police Department reports they arrested a shooting suspect today after an argument outside Little Caesars Pizza at 1244 S. 11th Street in Niles.
Officers say shortly after 10 am, Niles Police officers were dispatched to Little Caesars Pizza for a malicious destruction of property complaint involving two employees who were in a verbal dispute.
Moments later a 911 call was received at the Niles Dispatch Center of a subject who had been shot, receiving a non-life-threatening injury, and was in the Dollar Tree store located at 1202 S. 11th Street.
We’re told officers responded to both locations. The victim was located at Dollar Tree where he was treated by first responders and transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital.
Police say the suspect was located by officers at Little Caesars, which is a few hundred feet south of Dollar Tree and taken into custody. Based on evidence at the scene, investigators determined that the shooting took place in a business entrance near the 1200 block of S. 11th St.
The victim is identified as 34-year-old Mal Derwood Wynn of Niles. Wynn was treated and released from South Bend Memorial Hospital. The identity of the suspect has not yet been released.
