
Carolyn E. Douglass, a beacon of kindness, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2024, in Niles, Michigan. Born on August 19, 1941, in Bremen, Indiana, Carolyn’s life was a testament to her enduring warmth and the love she shared with those around her.
A graduate of Bremen High School, Carolyn carried the lessons of her youth throughout her life, embodying the values of hard work and dedication. She was a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where her faith and fellowship were cornerstones of her existence.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, James Douglass; her parents, Leo and Esther (Schlundt) Sahlhoff; and her sister, Doris Reed. She is survived by her four children, Lisa Whelchel, Paul (Erin) Douglass, Pat (Lisa) Douglass, and Kathleen Douglass; her 10 grandchildren, Tim (Julia) Douglass, Melissa (Jeremy) Ware, Bryce (Kara) Whelchel, Max Douglass, Lauren (Ryan) Lennox, Jacob Douglass, Ben Douglass, Sam Douglass, Amelia Griffith and Aiden Wesolowski; 8 great grandchildren; and a very special niece, Beth (Mike) Tierney. Carolyn is also survived by her siblings Marion Loucks, Dorothy Sahlhoff, Jane Allen, Ellen (Louis) Haug, John (Carol) Sahlhoff, and Leo Sahlhoff.

Funeral services to honor and celebrate Carolyn’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Niles. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Joseph Liss officiating. Interment will follow at Sauktown Cemetery in Mill Creek, Indiana.
