Buchanan announces DNR grant; seeks matching funds for ADA-accessible kayak launch

The City of Buchanan announced it has received a $230,000 grant award from the Michigan DNR Natural Resources Trust Fund for an ADA-accessible kayak launch at Riverfront Park along the St. Joseph River.

The funding comes as the city nears the completion of the Buchanan-St. Joseph Riverfront Master Planning Project with Abonmarche Consultants — funded by the American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation.

Community Development Director Richard Murphy said the city will be seeking support from local and regional partners to secure the local match portion of the grant.

“The City of Buchanan is thrilled to receive this funding to implement the first piece of our vision of an improved and more accessible Buchanan Riverfront Park. We know that reconnecting more people to the water will deliver more health, quality of life, and economic benefits to our community and the region.”
