Desmond Bane scored 32 of his career-high 49 points in the second half and the Memphis Grizzles handed the Detroit Pistons their 18th straight loss, 116-102 on Wednesday night Detroit is 2-19, with the losing streak the longest in one season in franchise history and second-longest overall behind a 21-game slide at the end of the 1979-80 season and start of 1980-81. The Philadelphia 76ers hold both NBA records, setting the single-season mark at 26 in a row in 2013-14 and the overall mark at 28 at the end of 2015-16 and start of 2016-17. NBA – Bulls guard Zach LaVine needs 3 to 4 more weeks of rehab on right foot
Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine could be sidelined through the rest of December because of inflammation in his right foot. The Bulls said Wednesday night after their 111-100 victory over Charlotte that the two-time All-Star will need three to four more weeks of rehab. LaVine missed his third straight game, with Chicago going 3-0. LaVine signed a five-year, $215.16 million extension after the 2021-22 season. He’s averaging 21 points in 18 games — and has been the topic of recent trade speculation.

NHL – Red Wings expect Patrick Kane to make debut Thursday night at home against Sharks
The Detroit Red Wings say Patrick Kane is ready to make his season debut. Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde says he expects the newly signed veteran to play Thursday night at home against the San Jose Sharks. The 35-year-old Kane had his right hip surgically repaired six months ago, hoping to become the third NHL player to come back from the invasive procedure. Detroit signed the playmaking wing last week to a prorated $2.75 million contract for the rest of the season to bolster its chances of earning a spot in the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
NHL – Bedard living up to the hype, but Blackhawks remain one of the NHL’s worst teams
While Connor Bedard has lived up to the hype as the No. 1 overall pick in the NHL draft, he can only do so much. The Chicago Blackhawks still look like a team at the beginning of a rebuilding project, albeit with a budding offensive star and a handful of promising defensemen. Chicago has dropped 10 of 12 after Tuesday night’s 4-3 shootout loss to Nashville. It is off to a 7-16-1 start after it was 7-13-4 through its first 24 games last season. The biggest problem for Chicago is its lack of scoring punch, even with Bedard in the fold.

NFL – Last 5 games could go a long way toward determining Fields’ and Eberflus’ futures
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields says he’s not getting too worked up about his future because football “doesn’t define who I am as a person.” The final five games could go a long way toward determining whether the Bears stick with Fields and, for that matter, coach Matt Eberflus. It starts with a visit from the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions on Sunday. Fields struggled in the early going and missed four games because of a dislocated right thumb just as he was starting to show growth as a passer. The season hasn’t exactly gone the way he hoped. The Bears have to decide whether to pick up his fifth-year option for 2025. Chicago could also be in position to draft a top QB. Eberflus is 7-22 in two seasons.

The Arizona Diamondbacks and pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez have agreed to an $80 million, four-year contract, according to a person with direct knowledge of the deal. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Wednesday night because the team had not announced the move. MLB – Juan Soto traded to New York Yankees from San Diego Padres in 7-player deal
The New York Yankees have acquired All-Star slugger Juan Soto in a blockbuster trade with the cost-cutting San Diego Padres. San Diego received right-handed pitchers Michael King, Jhony Brito, Randy Vásquez and Drew Thorpe along with catcher Kyle Higashioka. In addition to Soto, the Yankees get Gold Glove center fielder Trent Grisham. It’s the second blockbuster deal involving the 25-year-old Soto in less than two years. The three-time All-Star has one season of team control left and is likely to get a salary around $32 million after batting .275 with 35 homers, 109 RBIs in his only full season with the Padres. San Diego acquired Soto from the Nationals on Aug. 2, 2022, after he turned down a $440 million, 15-year offer from Washington.
