The South Haven City Council has honored longtime COSY Radio morning host Paul Layendecker.

At a Monday meeting, Mayor Scott Smith said Paul has been a fixture in the community for decades.

“I appreciate you for everything you do in this community,” Smith said. “I can’t say that enough. You are the voice, and for so many years. I know a lot of us, everyone — we see you all the time, we appreciate everything you do.”

The council noted Paul serves as the president of the board of the We Care Community Resource Center, has served as president of the South Haven Kiwanis Club, and is a past chair of the Van Buren County United Way. The council then approved a resolution recognizing Paul for his ongoing service to the community. Paul thanked the body.

“The last 29 years of my life have been amazing in this place,” Layendecker said. “Having raised three kids here through an amazing school system, and just a great place to work, grow, love, and live. It continues to be that place to me today.”

Paul has been COSY morning host since 1996 and is celebrating his 50th year in broadcasting. He told the council he has no plans to leave South Haven, and if he retires, he still wants to be active in the community.
