Strikes at Detroit casinos continue

Workers continue walking the picket lines at Detroit’s big three casinos.

Those workers say that they believe an agreement is close, but hope to get what they’re asking for.

Hollywood Casino Table Games Dealer Rhonda Navarro, who just celebrated her 23rd work anniversary, is asking for a raise.

“We also need a raise,” Navarro said. “We haven’t had a raise in a very long time, not a substantial raise. They’re always willing to give us pennies and they want to spread it out over years. We need dollars, we need something substantial. We’re tired of living paycheck to paycheck.”

3,700 workers from MGM Grand, Motor City, and the Hollywood Casino at Greektown are on strike. They’re seeking higher pay and better benefits and workloads.

Although unionized workers are striking, the casinos remain open.
