A Michigan doctor is urging people to get the new COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available. A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory panel approved the updated vaccines for those six months and older. Dr. Matthew Sims, Corewell Health’s director of infectious diseases research says everyone who is eligible should get the shot.
“I put my money where my mouth is,” Sims said. “I will be going out and getting this shot as soon as I can. My wife will be getting it, my kids will be getting it. I believe in this, and I have gotten all my shots. I have not gotten COVID yet.”
Sims says there has been an increase in COVID cases recently with some cases more serious than others. He says the side effects from the new vaccines will likely be the same as earlier shots. Pfizer has set the list price at $120 per dose for their shot. Moderna said its shot will be $129. Most insurance companies are expected to cover the cost.
