Michigan State Police say a 43-year-old Dowagiac man has been killed in a motorcycle crash early this morning on M-51 near Maple Lane in Howard Township. Troopers say it appears he was northbound on M-51 toward Dowagiac when he went off the road, lost control, and hit an embankment. The man was thrown from the motorcycle and troopers say it does not appear he was wearing a helmet. They add they don’t know what caused him to leave the road.
Troopers were alerted to the incident from an iPhone crash alert around 2 am and found him after a brief search. They have not determined if drugs or alcohol were factors. The crash remains under investigation.
